Help on Start menu orb

Ok so i am trying to make a different image for the start menu in taskbar
But everytime I make it in photoshop than convert it to bmp I get a white background around the images instead of a black background


What am I doing wrong

what program or programs should I be using to make a new image there and what should I use to convert it to bmp

Well can't really edit the explorer.exe with a png cause it won't take it in Restorator 2007 so it has to be in bmp

plus this is for Windows 7

I had a similar problem with converting it to a bmp. Then I tried to use gimp and it works fine - at least for me.
