i cant see to get rid of this colour at the bottom of all the menus. when you move the selection down to the botton it goes away,thenyou open a menu again it reappears

no thats not it. plus when i open the "view" bottonin explorer all the different file size text have different colour behind them.

1) for the first problem, yes damn problem; i have  this difficulty: but easier to solve in your case (because i use a gradient effect for all the context-menu) i suggest the same answer as Spitzen: just use the same color for the bottom

2) for the "view" menu , the background is localized here: Lists, Menus & Tabs > Menu > PopUpBackground
it changes also the color of your all others menu (contex-menu etc)

just a example:

so just use the same color for all these parts Wink

I think he want to change the other color and not the popup background. If I'm right, that will do it:
Toolbars, Headers and Rebar > Toolbars & Headers > Toolbar: FILLCOLOR:COLOR
