How do I remove this shutdown icon, attached image, from the menur boot.

I don't use SIB but in 7 you would go to:

Start Menu > Panels > Basic > Places List > Controls > Logoff Split Button Right

and make the glyph image transparent

Don't know if it's the same in SIB.
