Virtual Machine

Hello all !
Does anyone knows which virtualization solution to choose for our purpose : testing windows customization stuffs (like boot animations, logon screens, and so on)
and thus avoid the -restart-restore-backup process (in best cases) ?
I mean :
-which software / version ?
-any favorite quick tutorial to go along with ?
Thanks for the help !
Joce.

I don't have a tutorial but VirtualBox is great to use. Lightweight, fast, and free.
