TaskBar Help

Could someone please guide me as to how to resize the area taken by elements in taskbar,
for instance :
- resize the width of area taken by start button or modifying the left/right margins
- reducing the margin between pinned programs

The width of the start button area is hardcoded into explorer.

OK then .. I hope I would still be able to shift the start button to the right by manipulating the image.
I will use TrueLaunchBar to get a compact pinned items. Problem solved ... Thanks guys.
