What the heck are Cmaps, Rmaps, Vmaps etc anyway? For that matter...what is PackThem_Version, Variant etc too?

I know they are metadata and Rmap means Root Map. But what exactly are they anyway?

Feel free to link me someplace where they are explained in detail if you don't want to do it yourself.

I've Googled them all and found no explanations.

BCMAP - Base Class Map; Defines inheritance.
CMAP - Class Map; List all the classes in the msstyles.
RMAP - Root Map; Global properties.
VARIANT - Defines all the properties for the that variant / substyle.
VMAP - Variant Map; lists all available variants.

By variant I assume you mean the particular theme msstyles as a variant of aero.msstyles?

But then what does "all available variants" mean?

No.

Technically the MSStyles file can have more than one variant. However there hasn't been more than one since Longhorn/Vista Beta.

Such as Longhorn Build 4074 Jade?

That's why you were working with VMAPS in your video?

That was to make Jade open in WSB.

I mean Jade is a Variant and therefore has a different VMAP than Aero.

Variant is just all the properties. VMAP just list the variant's name. For example in Vista and 7 it's just Normal. So it has

Code:
....N.o.r.m.a.l.
........N.o.r.m.
a.l.S.i.z.e.....
....N.o.r.m.a.l.
C.o.l.o.r...
