i think its a bug with vsb because if i modify something with restorator it works ok, but if i save the same theme with vsb, get this error

I maybe have the same problem. I changed the aero.msstyles with VistaStyleBuilder and saved it as a new file. The only changes i made were replacing each font entry Segoe,Quality:ClearType to Tahoma,Quality:Anti-aliased
Using the new style with AveStyler with the original system files or patching the system files using UniversalThemePatcher has the same effect:

- Applying the style while logged on works.
- After a reboot the logon screen appears.
- After login the screen is going black and the logon screen reappears
- if i try to login again and again the desktop appears eventually, sometimes after the second try, sometimes after ten or more tries.
- Each failed login creates an event-log entry 1000, faulting application winlogon.exe, faulting module uxtheme.dll, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x000137b4

My system:
- Dell Latitude D620
- Windows 7 x86 7068 and 7077
- VistaStyleBuilder v1.4.0.0
- AveStyler v1.0.0.1

We're investigating this. Could you e-mail the theme that causes the problem to ave@vistastylebuilder.com ? Thanks!

Any theme that you modify causes this problem, if you  open aero original and save it with vsb, get this error

As I said, we are investigating this. Since Windows7 is not final, things can change from build to build, unfortunately Sad

I have the same problem to. I have made a theme in build 7106, saved and apply it. Works great, but when i restart my computer windows doesnt want to logon anymore. This bug is same in build 7077. I have made something wrong or is a bug in the program, i dont know what to think beacause the theme work but i can logon after a restart and i have to go in safe mode and delete the theme.
Please help.

Additional information: The crash after login almost never happens running Windows 7 in Virtual PC 2007. I only can remember a black screen or crash with Build 7022. No crash in Virtual PC with later builds 7068, 7077 or 7100.

In Virtual PC Aero is always disabled and the basic theme is used because there is no support of Direct3D Hardware Acceleration. So maybe the problematic part in the .msstyles files saved by VSB is related to Aero !?!

Could you launch eventvwr.msc check Event Viewer (Local) > Windows Logs > System and see if anything is mentioned about WinLogon or UxTheme or something to do with the logon process.

We (hopefully) identified the problem; here's a temp. solution:
1. Open up (or create the file) %appdata%/vistastylebuilder/settings.ini in notepad, be sure to give it an *.ini extension.
2. Add the following:

[Settings]
FirstImageId=508

3. Save the ini file
4. Resave your msstyles file
5. it should no longer crash now

Ifthis proves to be working for everyone, we'll release an update for VSB/7SB.

I changed the settings.ini and made a new style from original aero.msstyles.

5 reboots, many logoff/login: no crash so far!

It seems the problem is solved (for me at least), thank you.

@Panda X: I already posted some EventViewer information. See post No. 4 in this thread.

Yeah I see it now. I used your theme and got the same error. Ran a diff on yours and mine (no changes) and found that your image numbers were starting at 10000 which apparently caused the crashes.

Haha, i wondered yesterday for hours why the #numbers are 10xxx in VSB and today i couldn't log on with my first custom theme. Now i made the fix too and it's working!
