Hi, I just purchased this software and have no idea where to start. I want to get into modding the default Windows 8/8.1 themes, but I am lost. I just got the application setup and running, but I think something is wrong with it? The bottom of the window has some error message, you can see the inserted image below:

Also, are there any tutorials that I can read to learn the basics?

Thanks,
Jeff

That error message is for a feature no longer used. Just click the information icon in the toolbar and it'll go away. There's nothing wrong.

Here's a video about how to use WSB for beginners:  http://vistastylebuilder.com/forum/index.php?topic=1268.0

Ah, Thanks for that info.

Does anyone know where I can get the patch file to patch the system files to allow 3rd party themes? I'm currently on 8.1 preview.

Is the standard Windows 8 version not compatible? Where can I get the patch for Windows 8? Thanks

edit: nevermind!

I have received quite a bit of email looking for Windows 8.1 support and I'm willing to make the changes needed... but my kernel code signing certificate has expired. As UxStyle isn't a revenue generating activity for me, I ask that others please consider chipping in to fund the purchase of a new certificate. After the funding goal is met, I'll buy the certificate and release an update to support Windows 8.1. (If you don't see the donate widget below, use the link above.)

I just reinstalled Windows 8 and wanted to try out VSB, but all the tutorials seem to be for Windows 7? Do the locations still apply to Windows 8? For instance, I wanted to change the transparent taskbar to a solid color without transparency.

Most of the locations are the same. Most of the new ones are in Windows 8 (For Testing Purposes Only). If they don't work check out the posts on the 8 Help board for new locations or ask.

I followed the instructions you gave here to change the taskbar and it worked, but the colors seem off? The shade of the color I made it seems off from what I have in the photo editing app. I think it's something to do with the built-in color and appearance options? Is there a way to make the color more accurate without having to mess around with the color mixer and color intensity in the 'Color and Appearance" window?
