Title: Taskbar clock shadow
Post by: chiwou on August 31, 2011, 03:50:28 am
Hi @ all,

I'm trying to add a small shadow (1-2px underneath the text) to the taskbar clock text, I already tried with textglow etc...
but I still can't get a satisfying result and the textshadow option seems to have no effect.

Is there a stylehack available or am I using the wrong settings?

Composited:Bool | check
Textshadowoffset:Position | 2,2
Textshadowcolor:Color | black
Textshadowtype:Enum | Single

Thanks
-Chris

one more thing I noticed: theres no ( how ever it was called) glowintensivity property for you set it to 100 or 200 or something

You can't add text shadow to the system tray clock  in Aero , it only works in Basic mode.I use textglowsize "1" and glowintensity  "100" an it's pretty similar to -
     textshadowoffset:Position  -1, -1 .

It works in Aero

Vista Textglow

XP Textglow

Though I will say don't use the XP method if you have it transparent under the clock since text rendering gets odd since composition is off on the font. You'll have to mess around with the font in order to get the date back on and text glow pushes it.

I've tried  those settings before and  it made my text transparent, still does, what am I doing wrong?.

That's just how text renders when composition is off. DWM makes things transparent based on blackness. The same issue remains in my screenshot since behind it was black (thus making the text fully white which makes it look opaque)

This is why the only suitable method is to composite the font and use Vista's text glow. Which of course as I said earlier pushes the line break down. But if all you wanted to see was the clock it works.

(Also: I hate it when I accidentally click modify instead of quote)

Thank you all,

I experimented with shadow and glow and now I've a very nice compromise, it's a real shame that it is not a real shadow, but it still looks nice.
