Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand > GroupImage and GroupImageHot. Color the images.

You have to color the Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand > GroupImage and GroupImageHot  images

You have to do the same for all states of Taskbar & System Tray > TaskBand > Basic > TaskBand >TaskItemButton

You have to color the images of the 10 states of TaskItemButton not just highlight and hottrackingcolor

Edit:  If you have transparency in any of these states you will still get a flashing color animation as it cycles through the stages. The only way to prevent this is to have solid colors for all of the states.

Even then you still get some animation! The only way to stop it entirely is to have solid colors and then go into your computer to System > Advanced System Settings > Performance and unclick "Start Menu and Taskbar Animations" :P

The TaskItemButton has 10 states or images (Hover, Normal etc).

To have no color animation the images must all be solid colors only.

To get rid of residual animation you have to go into your computer to Control Panel  > System > Advanced System Settings > Performance and uncheck the "Start Menu and Taskbar Animations" box.

That is the only way to get rid of the color animation.

Try it. You'll see. :)

Why??

You can't get rid of the red, blue, etc because Windows takes the dominate color of the icon and creates that effect.

One last time.

I have absolutely NO ANIMATION in my TaskItem Button so it is NOT impossible.

SOLID colors for ALL 10 states. No transparency, no gradients, no anything.

Then go into your computer and uncheck the taskbar & startmenu animations.

You will have perfect flat, dull, Vista-Like taskbar buttons.

Flash Button wouldn't work. And since Flash Button wouldn't work you could just turn off color hot tracking.

The highlight and hottracking was a joke anyway. Never made amy difference I could ever see.

I remember doing every combination of colors I could imagine with the highlight and hottracking and the animations would always come up the same damned colors. it was just a sad illusion of control :S

Highlight isn't used (I assume anymore) and HotTracking is for greyscale or B/W icons.

Anyway...any hint of transparency  in the TaskItemButton images and you have Microsoft's animation whether you like it or not.

I just wanted to change the colors flash windows, not make them transparent.

Right, you can't use your own colors...only disable them..sucks.

I've disabled mine as well due to the lack of control..I liked the effects..but not the colors with my black theme.  Shame because it was a nice feature in Windows7.

3am thanks for the tip, too bad I had to disable all animations though, but its better than the ugly flashes.

The Taskbar buttons take their animation color from the color of the icons. Microsoft says "This approach is visually attractive, yet subtle, conveying a humble personality" lol.
